Read What Our Alums Are Saying...
Every day CWS alumni use the skills learned here to save lives, educate others, and to help their communities. Our courses are taught by some of the most knowledgeable and passionate people in the field. Anyone can memorize a presentation, but it takes true professionals to convey information in a manner that makes class fun, engaging, and will truly help you learn (and not just memorize) the materials and skills necessary to help in an emergency.
Stop what you are doing! The internet will still be here later. Go sign up to get certified in CPR or First Aid, or buy the necessary supplies to maintain a well stocked First Aid Kit in your home, car or camping gear. If you have questions, their online help chat will answer them for you. Now you may go back to the cat memes and shared recipes, knowing full well that you now know how to help yourself and others in a real emergency.
This weekend, I had an opportunity to get certified in wilderness first aid through the Center for Wilderness Safety. I cannot speak highly enough of this course, these instructors, and the curriculum. I had high expectations, and what I experienced surpassed everything I imagined. I learned so much. I got resources. I practiced skills. I played outside.I’m hoping to go for the next level soon.
Both my son and I took the CPR/AED class followed by the Wilderness First Aid Course this past weekend in preparation for our Philmont trek next year. Great class with a great instructor…so much pertinent information that was well presented. We left with a good understanding of the subject and materials for any after-class review or reference. An awesome organization that provides service beyond just the classes. We certainly will be back.
I’m certain everything I learned from this course will be helpful not only in my personal life but my professional one as well.
GREAT organization! I’ve been taking courses and hosting courses with CWS for 6 years now and they offer AMAZING courses! Their curriculum, testing and staff are AWESOME! Definitely highly recommend them for anyone looking for training and certification in wilderness medicine.
I took their Wilderness First Responder class in July, and it was the best wilderness medicine class I’ve ever taken. The Instructors were awesome – they’re very knowledgeable and made every effort to make the class informative and fun. I loved the realistic training scenarios, especially the chance to participate in roles that were outside my comfort zone. I strongly recommend the WFR & WFA class to others with full confidence they’ll be fully satisfied. The Center for Wilderness Safety is a tremendous resource for us here in the DMV.
CWS is the best place to learn wilderness first aid in the mid-Atlantic region. Not only does the staff know everything about the most recent protocols in wilderness safety, they also know how to teach and teach well (the ratio of lecture to skills practice is superb!). The staff’s enthusiasm and dedication to making sure you leave their course with the toolbox of knowledge and confidence to act is second to none. I would, with no hesitation, recommend CWS to anyone looking to advance their skills in wilderness safety (and have already done so!).
Boy Scout Troop 51 partnered with CWS to conduct a First Aid Merit Badge class for our Scouts and other Scouts in the area. Clif and Ryan made it a fun and an active experience and did an outstanding job keeping the Scouts engaged. There was nothing boring about it. The Scouts and parents who stayed to learn along with them enjoyed the experience and learned a lot along the way.
What a fun way to learn to deal with very stressful situations. Lots of info and resources, tons of practice!

Just wrapped up Wilderness First Aid with CWS, and I was blown away by the content and experiential learning. Can’t wait to learn more from the Center for Wilderness Safety! There’s so much content to read in their text book and further courses to sign up for. I definitely recommend this organization to everyone!
I have taken the Wilderness First Aid course with CWS twice. Both sessions were fantastic. As soon as I finished the first session, I knew I would be back in two years to re-up. The instructors were very knowledgeable and the materials were top notch. The best part is that it’s experiential training so you go away retaining much more than death by PowerPoint. Their first aid shop is wonderful, too.
Did you know that the number of CWS alumni has doubled in the past three years alone? We must be doing something right! Let us know what keeps you coming back to train with CWS! While we normally collect anonymous reviews at the end of each course, we’re collecting them online now, too! This enables us to continue providing the best experience possible for students such as yourself and others, and lets us better understand how CWS can make our programs even better!
